In the food industry, pathogens can emerge at any stage of production. Eighty percent (80%) of outbreaks originate from contaminated work surfaces. When bacteria are not detected promptly, the consequences are severe: risks to public health, product recalls, legal sanctions, and a significant negative impact on brand reputation and consumer trust. In 2022, foodborne Listeria resulted in 35 outbreaks, 242 hospitalizations, and 28 fatalities.
Current detection primarily uses two methods. The traditional approach, mandated by ISO regulations, involves plate counting culture and takes 24 to 48 hours for results, not including the additional logistics time for sample submission. Alternative methods are often quicker, but many still require 12 hours of incubation or produce a high rate of false positives. Both traditional and alternative methods typically require a laboratory and specialized technical personnel. Consequently, control remains reactive, meaning the product may already have entered the market before the risk is identified.
The SURFACE LISTERIA KIT empowers food companies to perform self-monitoring. It is based on our LifeTrace technology, which enables the detection of live Listeria—in situ, within 15 to 60 minutes, and without the need for culture or specialized staff.
It employs our patented molecular method, offering superior sensitivity compared to traditional methods and the crucial ability to differentiate between live and dead bacteria, thereby eliminating false positives.

The kit is portable, digital, and extremely user-friendly. It requires no technical expertise or laboratory equipment. Our detector allows you to analyze up to four samples simultaneously and automatically generates the results report.

Arquea technology is currently undergoing AOAC validation, is compatible with the ISO 16140 standard, and has been verified by the CNTA (National Centre for Food Technology and Safety).

FAQ
The kit is designed as a comprehensive solution for detecting Listeria spp. on surfaces. It includes the portable detector, the process management application, the swabs for sample collection, and the necessary reagents for analysis. Everything is organized in a portable case and is complemented by access to the digital platform for results management and traceability.
Cleaning and disinfection processes eliminate bacteria, but techniques like traditional PCR can still detect DNA fragments from dead bacteria, leading to false positives. Our LifeTrace technology detects only live bacteria, which are the ones that pose the real threat to public health.
Anyone can use it. The product is designed to be intuitive and guided step-by-step, meaning no prior experience or technical knowledge is required. The results are presented in a clear, comprehensible, and accessible format.
The entire process, from sample collection to obtaining the digital result, is completed within an interval of 15 to 60 minutes, without the need for a laboratory or culture.
All results are integrated into the Arquea platform, where they can be easily visualized, stored, and shared. The information is the exclusive property of the client, is end-to-end encrypted, and only accessible to authorized users, guaranteeing maximum security and confidentiality.
We are the only provider offering live Listeria results on surfaces within an interval of 15 to 60 minutes, with very high sensitivity and without the need for a laboratory or technical personnel. Anyone can perform the analysis quickly, simply, and reliably by following our step-by-step process.
